Laser Mast

Hi everyone, as a first time boat owner I have all of these little fears that something will go wrong while sailing. I have a bear bones rig, no deck plate or up to date sail controls. It is not up to class standards, and is very cheap. I have this fear of capsizing and having the mast fall out… Is this an unrealistic fear? Should I upgrade my sail controls to hold the mast in? Has this ever happened to anyone? Is there something else I should do just to be safe?
