Men post big win over US MMA to stay in playoff hunt
Coming off a much needed win and a bye week, the boys traveled down to Long Island to take on US Merchant Marine Academy as we continue our journey for a conference championship. Although USMMA has been having a tough year, the past two months have proven that there is no easy match in our conference. With a beautiful day on the USMMA campus, the Colgate Rugby club took to the field with an attacking game plan in mind. Receiving the kick-off, the boys went on the offensive hogging possession for the first 15 minutes of the game. Our ability to move the ball during this time turned into points when backs captain, Eli Brick ’17, sliced through the defense for the first try of the game at the 9 minute mark, Brick converted the try. Receiving the ensuing kick-off, the boys went back to work. After a few strong phases, Clay McKee ’18 was able to dot down our second try at the 13 minute mark (conversion no good). USMMA was able to finally get their hands on the ball and work a couple of phases on their own, but our defensive line held firm and earned a turnover. […]
