[Rugby] Cal Maritime Powers its way into the NSCRO Small College Sweet 16

Cal Maritime powers its way into the NSCRO small college Sweet 16 with a 34 - 10 victory over the visiting Loyola Marymount University Lions, southern California's 2nd seed (out of the Gold Coast Conference). The win propels the Keelhaulers into a Sweet 16 matchup with undefeated and Cowboy Cup winner Angelo State University of Texas on Saturday, April 8, at the Claremont Colleges' Parents Field. Kickoff is at 11am. Win or lose, the Keelhaulers will play Sunday in either the PacWest Championship game at noon or the Consolation game at 10am.

Captain Mike Otair scored all 3 first half tries, but LMU struck quickly in the second half to tighten the score to 17-12. However, tries from juniors Kevyn Huntsman, John Bulaich, and the forwards (awarded a penalty try on a 5-meter scrum) quickly extinguished the threat. Michael Tumusiime was good on 2 conversion kicks.

Claremont Colleges was victorious over Santa Rosa JC 27 - 13 in the other Cal Cup game held at CMA. Claremont will face the Cowboy Cup runner-up, the University of Dallas, after the CMA-St. Angelo game.
