Heriot’s Rugby Club Announces New 1st XV Coaching Team
Heriot’s Rugby Club is pleased to announce its senior coaching structure for the upcoming 26/27 season, with Stuart Edwards appointed as Head Coach, supported by Iain Wilson as Forwards Coach and John Hardie as Defence and Contact Coach.
The appointments reflect a clear and positive step forward for the club, combining strong internal knowledge with fresh energy as preparations begin for next season.
Stuart Edwards takes on the Head Coach role having been assistant coach for a number of seasons. A former Heriot’s player, he brings a strong understanding of the club’s standards and expectations, alongside an established reputation as a thoughtful and progressive coach. His appointment signals confidence in both his leadership and his ability to guide the programme forward.
Iain Wilson joins the 1st XV setup as Forwards Coach. Former 1st XV captain and Premiership Player of the Year, Wilson combines high-level playing experience with a detailed and technical approach to coaching. His knowledge of the game and connection to the club make him a valuable addition to the group.
John Hardie continues as Defence and Contact Coach. An ex-Scotland international, he is highly regarded within the club game, and his presence ensures a strong and consistent focus on a key area of the game Heriot’s haven’t always been a fan of!
Ali Thomson continues as 2nd XV Head Coach, after a very successful debut season where he guided the team to the league title.
Director of Rugby, Neil Meikle, said:
“We are delighted to show continuity in our coaching team, while also bringing a new direction and energy into our set-up. Stuart has earned this opportunity, and we are very excited to see him take on the lead role. John and Iain bring a deep technical understanding of the game, and together we look forward to a strong 26/27 season and beyond.”
Stuart said:
“I am delighted to take on the 1st XV Head Coach role and look forward to working with Iain and John, both outstanding individuals, in what we expect to be a very successful period for the club.
Heriot’s Rugby Club is a place I am incredibly passionate about, and I am honoured to take on the role. As the club looks ahead, the focus remains on developing players, building a strong and competitive environment, and ensuring Heriot’s teams are successful on the pitch. Lots to be excited about – see you at Goldenacre soon!”
