International Womens Day 3

0 1

As part of International Women’s Day, Old Wesley RFC is proud to celebrate the incredible girls and young women who are shaping the future of our club — on and off the pitch.

In the lead‑up to International Women’s Day, we are shining a spotlight on some of the fantastic players within our girls’ section. These profiles celebrate not only their commitment to rugby, but also the confidence, friendships and life skills the sport helps to build.

Today we look out for Jude, Carys and Robyn

The three girls are currently in the Girls Under 12 squad who have been working hard all season to develop their all-round skills.  Jude has been an ever present in the club for around six years and also works with her mixed Under 12 squad, Carys is the grand daughter of Alan Doherty who was capped by Ireland in 1974 while Robyn after taking a break from rugby has come back to the club with a bang and is developing into a hard working potential captain.

Their journey is a powerful example of what long‑term participation in sport can offer — development, resilience, teamwork, and a lifelong love of the game.

Its great to see that the girls can identify female role models both in rugby and in other sports, this just goes to show the impact that the development of media stories which include females is creating waves across the generations.

More Than a Game

Rugby at Old Wesley is about more than competition. It’s about community, confidence, and creating an environment where girls can thrive. Cate’s story reflects the positive impact that inclusive, supportive clubs can have when young players are encouraged to start early and stay involved.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we are incredibly proud of all the girls and women who represent Old Wesley — whether as players, coaches, volunteers, or supporters.

We have some more stories to share over the coming weeks and we hope that the girls can continue their journey through the world of rugby…a club for life!!!
