Pontypridd v Neath – Matchday Preview

0 1

This Saturday 7th March Pontypridd RFC take on Neath RFC at Sardis Road in the Admiral Premiership, the match kicks off 2:30pm.

It’s very much third time lucky for Ponty this weekend with the team having succumbed twice to the Welsh All Blacks earlier this campaign in both league and cup. The first meeting between the two clubs this season came in the Welsh Cup, and on Saturday 27th September Neath triumphed by 23 points to 19 at The Gnoll. It was a little over a month later on Saturday 1st November the Valley Commandos returned to the Gnoll for an encounter in the league, but unfortunately it yielded a similar score and the same outcome from a Ponty perspective as they went down by a 26-20 scoreline.

The last time the two clubs met at Sardis was on the 30th April last year, and they played out an absolute thriller! The match swung to and fro and could have gone either way, but it was Pontypridd that came out on top of a sixty seven point thriller by 34 points to 33.

To the here and now, and Pontypridd came away from Cross Keys with a very good 36-14 bonus-point win on Saturday. Despite the win it’s very much ‘as you were’ at the top of the Premiership standings as both Beddau and Merthyr also secured bonus point wins against Llanelli Wanderers and Brecon respectively.

Fourth placed Neath will be rolling into town this Saturday as the proverbial ‘wounded animal’ having lost at home by 21 points to 15 against Bargoed over the weekend, Ponty will no doubt be expecting a reaction from them.
