Cross Keys v Pontypridd – Matchday Preview
Next up for Pontypridd RFC is an Admiral Premiership match away against Cross Keys RFC on Saturday 28th February. It’ll be the Valley Commandos’ second trip into Gwent in just over two weeks, with the match kicking off at 2:30pm at Pandy Park.
Ponty’s last visit to home of the Keys came towards the back end of last season on Saturday 12th April, and it yielded a hard-fought win. A brace of tries for both Stuart Floyd-Ellis and Dale Stuckey, and seven points from the boot of Jaydan Pugh sealed the victory by 27 points to 15.
The two clubs met earlier this season on Saturday 18th October, and again it was a closely fought battle. Connah Hughes, Joe Davies (2) and Jordan Coxley scored the tries whilst Jaydan Pugh added three conversions to seal a 26-19 win.
Pontypridd returned to the top of the Welsh Premiership table after the team’s victory away at Newbridge a week last Saturday, however, Beddau’s narrow win at home against Neath on Saturday has seen them return to the summit ahead of this week’s fixtures.
Ponty will be looking for their fourth league win in a row against sixth-placed Cross Keys this Saturday. The Keys have lost their last two league outings narrowly away at Bargoed and at home against Beddau respectively, but had only lost one of their previous six games prior to those.
League matches between Pontypridd and Cross Keys have historically been closely contested affairs, and this week has all the hallmarks of another one – we’ll see you Saturday #PontyFans
