Mid District Premiership Cup: Standings Update

We are now past the halfway stage of the Premiership season, and whilst things are heating up at the top of that particular table, exactly the same can be said for the Mid District Premiership Cup.

The Mid District Premiership Cup is back and bigger the ever in 2025/26 with the inclusion of Beddau RFC, and the race to finish in the top two could not be closer as things stand.

Supporters will know by now that the Premiership results of the six Mid District Clubs, Bargoed, Beddau, Brecon, Merthyr, Pontypridd and Ystrad Rhondda, are compiled into a ‘mini-league’ (three points for a win and one point for a draw).

Come the end of the Welsh Premiership season the top two in the six-team league will then compete in a Grand Final to determine who will be Mid District Premiership Cup Champions.

There have been some titanic battles between the six member clubs so far during this campaign, the following are the relevant results:

• 6^th September 2025 – Brecon 17-34 Pontypridd
• 20^th September 2025 – Beddau 26-0 Bargoed
• 4^th October 2025 – Bargoed 11-28 Pontypridd
• 11^th October 2025 – Merthyr 60-24 Ystrad Rhondda
• 18^th October 2025 – Brecon 14-42 Merthyr
• 1^st November 2025 – Ystrad Rhondda 24-3 Brecon
• 15^th November 2025 – Merthyr 22-15 Beddau
• 6^th December 2025 – Beddau 11-0 Ystrad Rhondda
• 13^th December 2025 – Brecon 20-45 Beddau, Merthyr 38-28 Pontypridd, Ystrad Rhondda 35-19 Bargoed
• 20^th December 2025 – Bargoed 55-7 Brecon, Pontypridd 36-20 Ystrad Rhondda
• 26^th December 2025 – Pontypridd 36-33 Beddau
• 17^th January 2026 – Bargoed 29-33 Beddau

…and as things stand, there are three teams locked together all on 12 points at the top of the standings. Here’s the current Mid District Premiership table –

There’s still lots of matches left to play amongst the Mid District clubs, and there’ll no doubt be more twists, turns and movement within the standings. Each team will finish the ‘mini-league’ having played 10 matches, here’s the next few Premiership matches involving the relevant clubs –

• 31^st January 2026 – Pontypridd v Bargoed
• 14^th February 2026 – Ystrad Rhondda v Merthyr
• 28^th February 2026 – Merthyr v Brecon
