Captain’s New Year Blog
I want to start by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, I hope that everyone enjoyed their time with friends and family. Reflecting on the past couple of months I look back with mixed emotions. Some very solid performances as well as us struggling to execute opportunities in games but still coming out on the right side of the scoreboard. However, the last couple of weeks I think we have shown extremely positive and encouraging signs. I thought our performance against Merthyr especially in the second half was exceptional, where I thought we deserved more out of the final score. Ystrad Rhondda was a real tough encounter for large periods of the game, but again in the second half I thought we demonstrated some real control to get ourselves over the line with an important bonus point to go with it.
Reflecting on the Boxing Day game against Beddau, I cannot give enough plaudits to both sets of fans for the support. The atmosphere that was created was nothing sort of incredible, which made it a brilliant experience for both sides. Credit to Beddau they are a quality outfit who play with some real passion and heart. That along with some quality players they posed one of the toughest challenges we have faced this season. I thought as a squad we showed some real character and quality to get ourselves over the line come the final whistle, which I’m really proud of the boys for.
Brecon are yet another tough task, although they are struggling in the league table they’re a proud club. One which brings myself and my brother amazing memories through minis and juniors. I’m sure they will come to Sardis with an attitude to cause an upset. They’re a squad with a very good coaching set up around them which will give them every opportunity to cause that upset they’re looking for.
Lastly I want to give another massive thank you for all the support we have been shown, especially last weekend the boys feed off the energy that the crowd bring and make it a special place to play rugby! I hope that everyone had a great Christmas with the family, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year from myself and the squad!
