Pontypridd v Cardiff Met – Matchday Preview
On Saturday 6th December Pontypridd RFC return to competitive action after a four-week gap. Cardiff Met RFC are this week’s visitors to Sardis Road for an Admiral Premiership clash which will kick off at the usual time of 2:30pm.
Saturday’s match is the start of an extremely busy Christmas and New Year schedule for the Valley Commandos, and the team will know that they’ll need to hit the ground running against The Archers. Last season Ponty achieved a season’s double over the men from Cyncoed, winning away by 42 points to 12 on Saturday 19th October 2024, before triumphing at Sardis by 35 points to 19 on 15th February earlier this year.
Pontypridd’s last outing was a friendly against Bedwas two Thursday’s ago, prior to that the last league match was the team’s home win against Llanelli Wanderers on Saturday 8th November. Since then Merthyr have played two matches and won them both, against Beddau and this week’s opponents Cardiff Met. Those wins have extended the Ironmen’s lead at the top of the table to 8 points, but Ponty have a game in hand sitting in second place.
Cardiff Met currently occupy 10th place having won two league matches this season, both at home, against Llanelli Wanderers and Brecon respectively. They have also lost three matches by 7 points or less, and their high-energy running style of play is very much suited to the Sardis 3G track, so this Saturday’s contest should be a cracker – be there!
