Wins over Kelso for u14 and u15s

0 14

Linlithgow u15  33 – 31  Kelso u15

Summary report from Kev Stuart

Much needed win for our boys today. Those that made themselves available put in an incredible shift this morning. U16s Charlie D and Louis A added a bit of grunt going forward and at the breakdown. We were out of sight in the first half … held on, just, in the second half

It was another dry, cold and bright Saturday morning when the Linlithgow S2 / u14 side took to the Academy pitch and despite a missed penalty in the first few minutes of the game, which hit the bar, it wasn’t long before the home side’s dominance was rewarded.

Linlithgow won a couple more penalties and the pressure paid off when Callum crashed over for the opening try of the game, following a break nine minutes in. Rory kicked the conversion and Linlithgow led 7-0.

A turnover by Linlithgow and they won yet another penalty which was kicked to the corner. From the resulting line-out the ball came out to Rory who dived over for their second try of the game, which was unconverted (12-0).

Kelso went on to have a period of possession, but the home side tackled hard and kept them at bay. A penalty was then awarded to Linlithgow and Max kicked to the corner. From the line-out, Struan got the ball to Callum, who ran in from outside the Kelso 22. The conversion was missed and the score was 17-0 to the home side.

Kelso got a try back after a period of possession, breaking through the Linlithgow defence and the conversion made it 17-7 after 25 minutes ahead of the first break of the match.

Linlithgow continued to defend well and following a big tackle from Nathan, Max followed in behind and won the turnover penalty. However, the kick to touch narrowly missed and the attacking move broke down.

Joe got his hands on the ball to win possession back after it was kicked in behind and a few phases later the ball came out to Logan who dived over in the corner, but the conversion was short and it was now 22-7 to Linlithgow.

Kelso continued to try and get themselves back into the game, but the home side worked hard to win the ball back and breaks from Rory and Callum took them back inside the Kelso half. Scott was next to break up to the oppositions 22 and then Nathan, Logan and Blair took the ball forward and a from a high tackle Linlithgow continued to put pressure on the Kelso defence.

From the resulting penalty, Logan took a quick tap and got the ball out to Rory who dived over for his second try of the game. Rory converted his own try to make it 29-7.

A period of possession by Kelso was repelled by the home side who continued to put in several tackles to keep them out. A number of penalties took Linlithgow back to halfway, but they couldn’t get on the scoresheet again before the second break of the game.

Shortly after the re-start Jay put in a sensational try saving tackle on his own line and subsequently won a penalty, with Kelso penalised for holding on. Scott got the ball from the line-out and took them up into the Kelso 22 and then Lucas took them to within 10 metres of the Kelso line. Linlithgow won another penalty and kicked to the corner and from the line-out Jay ran in Linlithgow’s sixth try of the game. Max converted to make it 36-7.

Linlithgow continued to put the pressure on and Lucas carried hard into the Kelso 22. A few phases later the home side won a penalty and Rory took a quick tap to get over for his third try of the game and Linlithgow’s seventh. Max converted to make it 43-7.

From a long kick by Kelso, Archie did really well to dive on the ball and he got it to Jack, who passed to Jay and from inside his own half ran in a scintillating try which Rory converted to make it 50-7.

Minutes later Callum won the ball inside his own half and then put on the afterburners, charging through the Kelso defence to score under the posts. Max converted to make it 57-7 with four minutes left to play.

Kelso tried to get themselves a second score, but from deep inside the Linlithgow half Joe won a turnover penalty and Harvey got the ball to Scott who ran through the Kelso defence for another fantastic try. Max converted to make it 64-7.

Linlithgow’s defence continued to remain strong, with Finlay, Struan, Harvey, Tom, Jack and Blair all putting in big tackles to keep Kelso out.

In the final minute of the game, Linlithgow were penalised for being offside and Kelso had the final chance. From inside the Linlithgow 22 they put a ball in behind the home side’s defence, but it went dead and Linlithgow secured a big win at home.

POTM: Rory
