55 years old today

0 13

Today the Rugby Club is officially 55 years old! The club was formally constituted and the first office bearers were elected on the 17th November 1970, at a meeting in the Star and Garter Hotel.

The Linlithgow Gazette reported the “kick off” as shown below:

The first match was held 4 days later on Saturday 21 November 1970 against Currie RFC, who were also founded in 1970 and were only playing their third or fourth match. As neither club yet had their own ground, the match was played on a pitch at the old Currie High School. At that time Currie was on the outskirts of Edinburgh and wasn’t formally incorporated into the City of Edinburgh until 1975. Currie RFC later established their ground in Balerno at Malleny Park where they are currently based.
