AIL 1B Instonians 36 Old Wesley 14
Old Wesley’s unbeaten run in the Energia AIL Division 1B came to an end at Shaw’s Bridge, where a clinical Instonians side claimed a 36–14 victory.
The home team made the brighter start, crossing early through Bevan Prinsloo after collecting a loose pass by Wesley. Minutes later hooker John Andrew powered over from a maul, then a well-weighted cross-kick from Josh Eagleson found Ben Ellerby to make it 17–0 at the break.
Wesley battled bravely but were pinned back by the hosts’ set-piece dominance. Mark Keane added Instonians’ bonus-point try before Andrew struck twice more to complete his hat-trick.
Despite the deficit, Wesley finished strongly. Replacement Rian Handley injected energy and smashed over after a strong run from the 22. Minutes later Ewan Watson took a pass from Paudi Farrell to run in form 20 meters to touch down under the posts. Tom Larke converted both to cap a spirited finish that showed the visitors’ character right to the end.
