Pontypridd v Cross Keys – Match Preview

0 5

On Saturday 18th October Pontypridd RFC play Cross Keys RFC at Sardis Road in the Admiral Premiership, kick off is the usual time of 2:30pm.

Last season the two teams met on three occasions in a period of just over two months with Ponty claiming victory in all three encounters. On Friday evening 7th February 2025 Pontypridd fought back from an early Keys onslaught to win by a 43-31 scoreline at Sardis. The two sides then faced off in the Welsh Cup final on Saturday 5th April and despite a narrow 10–5 half-time lead in favour of the Valley Commandos, it was they who dominated the second half to win 43-12 and lift their seventh Welsh Cup. Last season’s trilogy of matches concluded the following week at Pandy Park when Pontypridd triumphed by 27 points to 15 on Saturday 12th April.

Pontypridd will be going all out to secure their sixth consecutive league win on Saturday before a mini-break the following weekend, but they face a tough challenge against one of the league’s most battle-hardened teams.

Pob lwc bois!

TEAM NEWS:

Pontypridd have made six changes to the starting XV that claimed the bonus-point win at home against Newbridge last week, and there’s also a new face on the bench.

Four of the six changes come in the pack with Ben Stephens returning to start at prop, whilst Connah Hughes returns to start at hooker against his old club. Joe Miles has recovered from injury to partner Mitch Barnard in the boiler house and Iestyn Harris starts at no.8.

In the backline Joel Raikes returns to the matchday squad and starts at scrum-half, and Dale Stuckey has also recovered from the injury that kept him out of last week’s match and returns at fullback.

The only player on the bench who wasn’t involved last week is the returning Jude Williams.

Out of selection contention due to injury are Kristian Parker, Ben Drew, Oli Shepherd and Callum Coxley, whilst Joe Buckle is unavailable. Lots of other individuals are either returning from injury and not quite match fit, whilst others are getting valuable game time at other clubs.

For Player-Head Coach Kristian Parker, the injury he picked in last week’s match against Newbridge has brought his incredible near-six year run of consecutive matches for the Club to an end – we hope to see you back out there as soon as possible Kris!
