Pontypridd v Cross Keys – Matchday Preview

0 4

This Saturday 18th October Pontypridd RFC welcome Gwent opposition to Sardis Road for the second week in a row when Cross Keys RFC come to town. The Admiral Premiership match between the two clubs will kick off at 2:30pm.

Like with last week’s opponents Newbridge, Ponty and the Keys also met on three occasions last season, with the Valley Commandos triumphing in all of them. All three encounters took place in the space of just over two months, the first coming at Sardis Road on Friday evening 7th February 2025. After falling behind 19-0, Pontypridd roared back to claim victory by 43 points to 31 with Joe Davies’ brace of tries and Jaydan Pugh’s thirteen points with the boot amongst the points scorers. The next match between the two clubs was the big one – the 2025 Welsh Cup final at the Principality Stadium, and it was Ponty who tasted glory following a 43-12 win on Saturday 5th April. It was the very next week that Ponty headed to Pandy Park and won a close-fought fixture by 27 points to 15 on Saturday 12th April in the league.

Whilst we cannot predict the result this Saturday, one thing we can predict is the high chance that the match will be an entertaining one – there were no fewer than 171 points and 25 tries scored during the three games when the two teams faced off last season.

Dale Stuckey, pictured here with his family, ran out for Ponty for a 200th time against the Keys last season.

Pontypridd extended their lead at the top of the Premiership standings to two points following a big 66-17 bonus-point win against Newbridge on Saturday. Beddau enjoyed a fine 10-7 win against Neath at The Gnoll to stay in second whilst Merthyr moved into third after a big home win against Ystrad Rhondda. Cross Keys suffered a 23-13 home defeat by Bargoed over the weekend. There was only a score between the two teams for most of the match before a second half converted try and penalty for Bargoed consigned the Pandy Park men to defeat.

The Admiral Welsh Premiership table, accurate as of 13/10/2025.

This Saturday’s match will be Ponty’s last at Sardis until Saturday 8th November, so make sure you pack the place out and help support the boys to what will hopefully be their sixth consecutive league win this weekend #PontyFans.
