Taunton responded during a double sin-bin period, Harry Whiteman having quickly followed Rhys Roberts, as Archie Spokes and Andrew Humberstone crossed, just 5 minutes apart, both converted by Tom Putt for a 14–7 lead.
The restart saw Lucs back up to 14 on the park, and then, a full complement. Soon after, Jack Goodwin powered over to narrow the gap to 14–12, the missed conversion marking the end of the first half.
