LUCS HOLD FIRM UNDER PRESSURE

Luctonians edged Taunton Titans 29–24 in a thrilling National League 2 West clash at Summerfield Stadium. The visitors overcame three yellow cards and a late Taunton surge to secure victory.

Rob Aikman opened the scoring for Luctonians on 18 minutes after sustained pressure, with Tom Jones converting. Taunton responded during a double sin-bin period, Harry Whiteman having quickly followed Rhys Roberts, as Archie Spokes and Andrew Humberstone crossed, just 5 minutes apart, both converted by Tom Putt for a 14–7 lead.

The restart saw Lucs back up to 14 on the park, and then, a full complement. Soon after, Jack Goodwin powered over to narrow the gap to 14–12, the missed conversion marking the end of the first half.

In the second half, Luctonians dominated the line-out through Caleb Montgomery, setting up two tries for Ben Link, both converted by Tom Jones (14-26). But Putt, for the hosts, soon replied with a converted solo effort to bring Taunton within five.

A tense final quarter saw Jones and Putt trade penalties. With Luctonians down to 14 after Frank Kelly’s late yellow, Taunton launched wave after wave of attack. Heroic defence from Aikman, Jones, and finally James Wheeler, who bundled a Taunton player into touch in the dying seconds, sealed the win.

It was a match full of drama, momentum swings, and last-ditch tackles, with Luctonians showing grit and bravery to hold firm under pressure. The referee’s final whistle brought agony for the home side and jubilation for the visitors.
