Stan Mitchell – deceased

0 26

It is with great sadness that Old Wesley has learnt of the death of Stan Mitchell.

Stan was born in Co Tyrone and was educated at Foyle College, Queens University and Newcastle University, England. He joined Old Wesley after moving to Dublin for business reasons working with Massey Ferguson.  He went on to be a successful business man as the agent for John Deere grass cutting equipment.

He played centre on the 1st XV for a number of years during the early 1970s.  He continued to play at junior level and was a member of the 3rdB XV that won the Winters Cup in 1976.  After retiring from playing Stan continued as a great clubman and was always one of the first to support club events and fundraisers.

He was an international cricketer out of Phoenix Cricket Club, where he also served as Captain and President.  He also served as President of the Irish Cricket Union.

Predeceased by his wife Eve, Old Wesley extends its deepest sympathies to Stan’s son Robert, daughter Jane, his grandchildren and the rest of his family at this very sad time.
