Llangennech v Pontypridd – Match Preview
On Saturday 20th September Pontypridd RFC travel to play Llangennech RFC at Llangennech Main Field, the Admiral Premiership match between the two clubs kicks off at the usual time of 2:30pm.
It’ll be nearly a year to the day since Ponty’s last and only visit to Llangennech when on Saturday 21st September the Valley Commandos earned a narrow 14-13 win away against the Bois y Llan. Earlier this year the result was a far more comfortable 66 points to 28 win for Pontypridd in the return fixture at Sardis on the 18th January 2025, a victory that secured a season’s league double.
Ponty have won two from two so far in the Premiership this season whilst Llangennech have suffered defeats in both of their outings to date. However, one of those losses was by just a single point at home against Beddau on the opening day of the season and the West Walians will be going all out to get their maiden win of the new campaign tomorrow afternoon. Pontypridd will be looking to go three from three before parking the league for a week ahead of next week’s Welsh Cup tie away at Neath.
The Team News…
Ponty have made five changes and one positional switch to the starting XV that triumphed against Narberth last Saturday, and there are a further two new faces amongst the replacements.
In the backs Callum Coxley comes in for his competitive club debut at outside centre, Jaydan Pugh starts at flyhalf whilst Iwan Griffith switches from centre to the wing. Club stalwart Joel Raikes captains the side this week on what will be his 230th Pontypridd appearance.
In the pack there’s rotation with the props with Ben Drew and Dan Cotterell coming in to the starting line-up and Iestyn Harris is drafted in to start at openside flanker.
On the bench Rhodri Smith comes into the matchday squad for the first time this season and new signing Louis Tovey could also make his club debut if he comes on at hooker.
Unavailable for tomorrow’s match due injury and/or leave are Jorge Lucey, Garyn Daniel, Dylan Kelly and Joey Williams.
