Game Of Two Halves
Orkney Rugby Club were the visitors to Lochshore on Saturday with both sides seeking a first win of their league campaign.
The match kicked off with Orkney playing down the slope and with a wind at their backs. The opening 40 minutes belonged almost entirely to the visitors who scored tries at regular intervals ,in the main due to Garnock errors providing them with territory and possession. The home side struggled to build any periods of play and rarely visited the Orkney half. At half-time the visitors held a healthy lead of 0-22
This was a proverbial game of two halves and following some stern words from coach Purewal at half-time Garnock significantly improved their performance in the second period.
The second half was played almost entirely within the Orkney half with Garnock having long periods of pressure in the 22. Despite their pressure Garnock were unable to trouble the scorers until midway through the half when winger Jaden Smith scored in the corner. Conversion good 7-22.
With 20 minutes remaining Garnock tails were up and they were desperate to reduce the deficit. They reached the visitors line on a number of occasions however strong defence from Orkney kept them at bay with the home side held up over the line on 4 or 5 occasions.
Despite the second half pressure Garnock were unable to add to their tally with the game finishing 7-22 for a deserved victory to Orkney
Next Saturday Garnock make the trip to face Dumfries
