Llangennech v Pontypridd – Matchday Preview

0 10

Next up for Pontypridd RFC is a trip into Carmarthenshire to play Llangennech RFC, the Admiral Premiership match on Saturday 20th September at Llangennech Main Field kicks off at 2:30pm.

Ponty did the league double over the Bois y Llan last season, but it was far from plain sailing when Ponty visited Llangennech for this fixture during the previous campaign. On Saturday 21st September, nearly a year ago to the day, the Valley Commandos came away with the narrowest of wins by 14 points to 13. However, on Saturday 18th January earlier this year Pontypridd claimed a much more comfortable win in a match that totalled nearly a century of points. The game will largely be remembered for Iwan Griffith, at the time on permit from Bridgend, bagging a hattrick of tries on his debut and contributing to the team winning by a 66-28 scoreline.

From left to right – current Ponty players Ieuan Davies, Iwan Griffith and George Thorrington all made their competitive debuts for the club against Llangennech at Sardis back in January.

Now to the present and Pontypridd earned a 35-12 bonus-point win over Narberth on Saturday. The win was far from routine with The Otters making Ponty work hard for the end result, but it was a result that has moved Ponty to the summit of the Admiral Premiership table after two matches. Llangennech have lost both their matches this season so far, by 33 points to 12 away at Bargoed on Saturday and by just one point 22-21 at home against Beddau on the opening day.

The Admiral Welsh Premiership league table, accurate as of 15/9/2025.

Ponty will be hoping to carry on building momentum this Saturday at Llangennech Main Field – a ground which in just over one year of Premiership rugby has already become a difficult place to play, make sure you travel in numbers this Saturday #PontyFans and get behind the team.
