Driffield 41 – 5 Sandal : Saturday, 6 September 2025
Great opening day result for Driffield, but don’t think it is one to get carried away with.
Sandal were missing plenty of names from last season : both Adams brothers left the back-line lacking, and Dec Thompson getting injured early doors did not help their lineout or attack.
Driffield had their share of unavailabilities and injuries, so rolled out two old-stagers in Borman and Dervey. They also had good new youngsters making excellent contributions.
Driffield defended brilliantly and left Sandal scrambling for attacking options. The Driffield defence was helped by Sandal continually going up the middle rather than stretching the attack.
Any half-chances in attack and Driffield seemed to break the line : whenever they got the ball into the wider channels they looked dangerous and a real threat scoring some good tries.
Certainly a very positive start for the Woldsmen taking five points from the game.
