The wind was straight down the pitch which Driffield played head-on in the first half.

A couple of easy tries gave Driffield a fairly simple 3-14 head-start without having to try very hard.

Middlesbrough then woke up, and the 12 made a fairly solid impact scoring a good try.

The Middlesbrough left wing, who was the other serious attacking threat, scored a couple of brilliant tries to give them a narrow half time advantage 20-19

It took almost 25 minutes of the second half for anyone to score again.  Middlesbrough suffered two quick yellow cards and an injured fly-half, giving the Woldsmen the advantage and they took it.

The last ten minutes was all Driffield.

Middlesbrough made a mess of Driffield’s lineout (their 8 was outstanding) and they slowed the ruck at every opportunity.  It was a scrappy and messy game throughout.

Driffield will be happy to come against with the win and a solid five points in a game that never really seemed to get going.
