Tenby United v Pontypridd – Matchday Preview
Next up on Pontypridd RFC’s pre-season itinerary is a trip to Pembrokeshire to play Tenby United RFC at Heywood Lane. Ponty’s excursion into West Wales takes place on Saturday 23rd August, kick-off is 2:30pm.
Saturday’s friendly match at Heywood Lane will be the second time Ponty have visited the ground having also played there during pre-season twelve months ago. On the 12th August 2024 the Valley Commandos won an entertaining encounter 35-12 against the Seasiders with Mitch Barnard and Dale Stuckey amongst the try scorers.
Tenby United have enjoyed somewhat of an upward trajectory over the last few years. Last season they played in Division One West having only been promoted into that league twelve months earlier. Despite being one of the ‘new boys,’ they only missed out on promotion to the Championship by a single league point having finished second to Aberystwyth who were crowned champions.
Pontypridd will head to West Wales coming off the back of a 61-12 win against Cilfynydd on Saturday just gone. Ponty used the match to give a large contingent of the squad game time, plus a few new faces had a run out as well. Whilst Ponty were playing Cil, Tenby were hosting fellow Premiership club Ystrad Rhondda. There wasn’t much between the sides for 60 minutes before Ystrad sealed the win in the final quarter by a 26-12 scoreline. The Valley Commandos will head west this Saturday expecting a difficult match against Division 1 opposition.

Last season’s trip and match were extremely enjoyable, and Ponty fans can expect the same warm welcome from Saturday’s hosts once again.
