Playing Squad Update: Further Changes Confirmed
As the new 2025/26 season fast approaches, the hard work behind the scenes to shape the Pontypridd playing squad continues. As is customary, there will potentially be some further changes here and there during the team’s pre-season schedule as we build up to the start of our Welsh Premiership campaign.
But as things stand the current core squad including players who have re-signed from last season and our recent new signings is as follows:
Ben Stephens, Ben Drew, Dylan Kelly, Garyn Daniel, Kian Mattravers, Dan Cotterell, Mitch Barnard, Kristian Parker, Cai James, Cally James, Aled Evans, Joe Miles, Joel Raikes, Jaydan Pugh, Garyn Smith, Stuart Floyd-Ellis, Joe Davies, Dale Stuckey, Louis Rochefort-Shugar, Oli Shepherd, Joe Buckle, Ethan Evans, Callum Coxley, Jordan Coxley, Iwan Griffith, Joey Williams, Jorge Lucey, Connah Hughes, Jack Davies, Sam Talbot, Jude Williams, George Thorrington and Charlie Hancock.
We are also very pleased to announce some new signings that will be part of the Pontypridd RFC squad for the upcoming season – some will be familiar having already played for the Valley Commandos, others we are very much looking forward to welcoming to Sardis Road. These are:
Ieuan Davies, who played for Ponty last season before injury unfortunately cut his season short, joins from St Peters.
Rhys Emmott also appeared for the Club last season and links up from neighbours Llantwit Fardre.
Hooker Taylor Coles joins us from SGS College.
Rhys Conquer, who operates at centre joins Ponty from Christ College Brecon.
Rhodri Smith links up from Cilfynydd having made his Ponty debut towards the back end of last season.
Other players who have joined us include Tom Fry, Elis Evans, Ben Bora, Lloyd Dennett and Rhodri Hext.
Also, some significant news is current coach Iestyn Harris is also going to partake in the team’s pre-season matches – welcome back into the playing fold Iest!
The flip side to players joining the club is players departing, and as a follow up to our last squad update published in June we can now confirm the following players have left the Club for pastures new:
Jeffrey Young scored 4 tries during his 20 Pontypridd appearances throughout the 2024/25 season. He became a real fan-favourite during his time at Sardis Road and departs as a 2025 Welsh Cup winner.
Jacob Symes made 18 appearances and scored 89 points last season after joining the Club from Swansea RFC in the summer of 2024. His highlight was arguably his match winning kick away against Bargoed in the Welsh Cup quarter final.
Charlie Morgan-Stephens also departs Sardis Road, the young winger made 3 appearances last season.
We’d like to thank Jeff, Jacob and Charlie for their efforts last season whilst wishing them well for the future – diolch lads.
