Rugby Summit AAC Rugby
The Rugby Site is visiting Amsterdam in August!
I am very excited about this coaching conference in Amsterdam, organised by The Rugby Site and AAC. The Rugby Site will bring very interesting coaches with tons of experience and it will be great to meet and talk.
Back in the day we had the Dutch Rugby Trainers Association and we organised a weekend at the start of the season, joined by referees and I am sure this Rugby Summit will turn out just as inspiring! Of course learn from the international coaches but there will be lots of opportunity to talk and reflect on our situation in the Netherlands.

The Program
It looks like there is something for every coach. Personally look forward to finally meeting Rusty Earnshaw. I have been listening to his podcasts for many years now. I use the Magic Academy cards and like the game based learning model he promotes. And, being a Pierre Villepreux Fundamentalist, looking forward to discuss his work with Rusty and get his take on it.
Back in the nineties and we had the first (official) Women’s World Cup in Amsterdam. Darryl was coach of the New Zealand team and they blew away all competition in fantastic style. I remember talking to him and some of the players and learn that for them it was not only about winning but also about proving that women can play rugby too! Will be good to catch up with him and learn about his journey.
Then Portugal and Simon Mannix: many years ago when Krijn, Mats and me starting talking about participating at the world cup and were booting up the academy program we talked about Portugal. Our argument was “if Portugal can get their stuff sorted and qualify, us Dutchies should be able to do it too!”. Of course after that 2007 participation they did it again (and we did not, still losing to their National Side). I did some benchmarking in the past, will be good to compare set-up and standards between Portugal and the Netherlands. Fun fact: met his brother Tim in Wellington in 2015!
And then Linde van de Velde, what a career she already is having! I hope she will have some inspiring work with Dutch Girls Rugby. can we set this up please? It would be great to see that energy and interaction!
