Iwan Griffith signs for Pontypridd
Pontypridd RFC are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Iwan Griffith from Bridgend Ravens for the 2025/26 season. The 25-year-old wing or centre has joined Ponty on a permanent basis having made 4 appearances for the Club last season whilst on permit from the Ravens.
As a youngster Iwan attended Ysgol Llanhari and represented Pontypridd Schools at both U11s and U16s age grade levels. His Ponty Schools involvement didn’t end there and in 2022 he helped coach their U16s side along with Kristian Parker, Garyn Smith and Cally James.
Iwan’s academic studies saw him study at Cardiff Met University and whilst there he played in BUCS Super Rugby and the Welsh Championship. A move to Bridgend followed in 2022 where he played in both the Welsh Premiership and Super Rygbi Cymru last season. Iwan made his debut for Pontypridd last season on Saturday 18th January against Llangennech, and his bow for the Club could not have gone any better as he bagged a hat-trick and the Golden Bob Man of the Match award.
To date, Iwan has played four matches and scored four tries for the Valley Commandos and we cannot wait to see this tally in the famous black and white extended next season!
On returning to Sardis Road on a permanent basis, Iwan said: “I’m incredibly proud to be signing for Pontypridd RFC. It’s an honour to join such an historic club with a passionate fanbase. I’m excited for this new chapter and fully committed to giving everything I have for the team and the supporters.”
Pontypridd Head Coach commented: “Iwan is no stranger to the Ponty fans having played for us a number of times already, so it’s great to nail him down for this season. In his brief showings, Iwan has shown pace, power and an eye for a try. Bringing in Iwan adds to the strength of our back line and gives us a real edge in the wide channels. Not just on the attack side of the ball, Iwan offers size in defence in both attack and the aerial game.”
Croeso nôl, Iwan!
