WELCOME FROM OUR NEW DOR

0 9

Welcome Statement from our new Director of Rugby, Robert Lewis.

I’m absolutely thrilled to be returning to Mortimer Park and stepping into the role of Director of Rugby at Luctonians. It’s a real privilege to take on this responsibility, and I’m genuinely excited to reconnect with the club. Having had the opportunity to play here for two seasons, I know first-hand what it means to be a Luctonian. The pride, the tradition, and the sense of community are second to none, and it’s an honour to be welcomed back in this capacity.

There’s a real buzz around coming back into this environment — familiar faces, familiar values, and the same unwavering passion for the game. Reuniting with the coaching group, many of whom I worked closely with during my playing days, is something I’m especially looking forward to. There’s already a solid foundation of success in place, and I see my role as adding layers to that — offering a fresh perspective, a different voice, and helping to evolve what is already a thriving rugby programme.

What excites me most is the opportunity to lead and support the whole senior section — not just the 1st XV, but all senior sides that make up the backbone of this club. Every team, every player, every coach has a part to play in the overall fabric of Luctonians Rugby, and I firmly believe in creating a performance culture that values and uplifts every level. Whether you’re in the 1s, 2s or 3s, you deserve an environment that helps you develop, compete, and enjoy the game we all love.

Community is at the heart of Luctonians, and being more involved in that aspect of the club is something I deeply value. This is more than just a rugby club — it’s a multi-sport, multi-generational hub that brings people together. As Director of Rugby, I want to give back to that community, engage with our volunteers, supporters, and families, and play a role in strengthening those all-important connections.

I also understand what it means to be a role model at this club. Having been in the jersey, I know the responsibility that comes with it — to uphold standards, to be visible, and to lead in a way that inspires others, particularly the next generation of Luctonians. Whether it’s working with the Colts to ease their transition into senior rugby, or helping develop our youth coaches, building a clear and supportive pathway is a top priority.

This club has ambition, and I’m energised by the challenge ahead. With the support of the Senior Rugby Committee, Head Coach – George Thomas, our incredible volunteers, and of course our players, I’m confident we can keep pushing boundaries — on and off the pitch.

Diolch yn fawr

Robert Lewis

Luctonians Director of Rugby
