Pontypridd v Merthyr – Mid District Cup Final Matchday Preview
Next up for Pontypridd RFC is the Mid District Premiership Cup Final against Merthyr RFC. The match takes place this Saturday 17th May at Sardis Road and will kick off at 2:30pm.
This fixture has unfolded very quickly over the 24 hours from Ponty’s perspective, with the club announcing just yesterday evening the team’s participation following Bargoed’s withdrawal. Here’s our official article containing all the details regarding this – Pontypridd to contest the Mid District Premiership Cup Final – Pontypridd-RFC
Pontypridd’s main objective this season was to win all the three major trophies on offer to the Premiership clubs and regardless of how the team find themselves in the Mid District Premiership Final, it’s now full focus on lifting this particular trophy.
For the Valley Commandos to lift their second piece of silverware of the campaign they will have to overcome the Ironmen of Merthyr, which will be one big challenge in the final match of a long and gruelling season.
Ponty suffered defeats home and away during the regular league season against Merthyr, losing narrowly 28-25 at The Wern last November and by 33 points to 19 at Sardis on the 22nd March. But with a third Valleys Derby now bringing down the curtain on the season, there’s a chance for Pontypridd to wrestle back the local bragging rights this Saturday afternoon.
So there we go, what a way to finish the 2024/25 season – The Cup Winners versus the League Champions, 2nd versus 1st in the league standings, two rival clubs – it’s all set up to be a cracker in the Sardis sun this Saturday!
