Anglo Welsh Mini Festival celebrates 30 years since it’s inception.
On Sunday, 13th April 2025, Luctonians will host our Anglo-Welsh Mini Festival, marking 30 years since its inception. This festival is a staple of the club’s calendar and invites clubs from across the country to join us for the day.
An army of volunteers manages the festival, working tirelessly in the week leading up to and on the day itself to provide rugby for hundreds of children. Whether it’s marking out pitches, organising team bookings, or serving food, everyone at Luctonians collaborates to ensure the future generation of rugby players is front and centre.
Alex Smith, the club’s Operations Director, says, ‘The Anglo-Welsh Mini Festival has been our biggest single-day event in the club’s calendar for decades and continues to offer a wonderful day of sport for the local area and the wider rugby community. From a club perspective, so many of our current senior players have participated in this festival as youngsters, and it is fantastic to see them back this year as volunteers, helping with car parking and food service.’
Over the years, we have faced wind, sleet, snow, and heatwaves, but the hard work has continued behind the scenes to ensure that the festival can take place. As we pause to reflect on the last thirty years and the thousands of children who have participated, we are proud to host a festival where the rugby community truly comes together.
Our current Director of Youth, Wayne Symonds, says, ‘On Sunday, we will have approximately 1,000 kids playing, and a couple of thousand adults watching, cheering, supporting, and all having a great time. Seeing so many happy faces reminds us, the volunteers and the Club, why we invest our time, effort, and money into supporting the game of rugby here at Luctonians.’
We have included a couple of photos from our archives, which showcase the festival over the years.
Fancy seeing what it’s all about? Then why not pop down this Sunday? We promise you won’t regret it. Gates open at 8am with fixtures starting at 11am.
Luctonians Mini Festival is sponsored by Moor Park.
