Wee Reds minis away fixtures day

0 3

Report by Calum Hay

Linlithgow P4 Minis stormed the pitches of Corstorphine on Sunday. Weather was on our side with glorious blue skies. A strong Linlithgow squad of 13 players against Corstorphine’s 6. The Reds played 2 teams against Corstorphine as well as a game against each other. The skills and tackling were magnificent from all teams and the games were fast paced with non stop action. The players not on the pitch during game time used the down time for extra training and practice to work on their skills. The boys showed real team work, passing between each other before the opposition could tackle them leading to  plenty of tries in all games. The coaches were also proud to see the Reds making plenty of courageous tackles and with great tackle position – something the squad have been working hard on every week in training.  We wish to thank Corstorphine for hosting and managing  the event.

P5 Report by Gordon White

A strong squad of P5s headed into Edinburgh on Sunday, for a training match against Corstorphine. After a full warm up with the coaches, the boys were split for 2 mini games and then a final all in game against the home team.

The theme of the day was very much scoring try after try after try. Methods included direct hard running by Julen, Angus, Findlay and Harry, or side stepping defenders by Patrick, Gregor, Ferris and Brodie or finding space through quick hands by Miles, Anthony, Olly and Harrison!

Hero of the day was definitely Findlay, who in the last game took a massive hit from the very strong  Corstorphine tackler. However he still manged to return to the field to score a brilliant try in the corner, before the final whistle was blown.

While munching the post-match pasta in the clubhouse, the boys were keen to discuss who was the top try scorer; was it Angus, Ferris, Gregor, Patrick or Harry this week? There was too many tries to count to be honest!

P6 match report from Andrew Bone

The P6s explored uncharted territory as they ventured to the wild west and played Lanark and Moffat for the first time.

The huge expanse of prairie on offer at the Lanark recreation ground provided an enticing setting for a rugby showdown and the temperature rose swiftly as the sun moved high(ish) in the sky and burnt off the early morning mist.

An unexpected abundance of horses in the vicinity threatened to distract the team from the matter at hand, but the weathered coaches wrangled the lads to order and they put in great performances across three close games.

The P6s were missing a few of their most prolific try scorers, but made up for it with some good team play and scored a wonderful try by passing the ball down the line that brought a tear to the eye. There was plenty to work on too, with the spacious pitch highlighting the complexity of the offside rules when kicking and the importance of not becoming bunched in defence.

Overall it was a very worthwhile pioneering expedition to Lanark and we forged a relationship with a great club that we hope to build on in future.
