Linlithgow 10 – 26 Currie

Report by Graeme Miller
Saturday’s U18 East Cup game against Currie was switched to lower mains park to protect the top pitch for the afternoon league match, because of the poor weather the day before. With the ground heavy for both sides, the rugby was surprisingly open and fast flowing with Currie coming out eventual winners at 10-26.
It was the Linlithgow boys who scored first through some hard running from winger Calum after 12 minutes and that’s how it stayed until Currie camped out for 10 minutes on the home side’s try line resulting in a try for the visitors under the posts, which was duly converted, but not before some huge defence from the Reds U18 side. Unfortunately the referee decided the home side’s defence were repeatedly off-side which resulted in two yellow cards over the course of those defensive sets. (5-7 at half time)
Linlithgow started the second half brilliantly, scoring again through our winger Calum who fended off numerous Currie defenders before scoring out wide and the score stayed at 10-7 until 20 minutes in, when some great breaks by the Currie backs resulted in another try for them. (10-12 in favour of the visitors)
Both sides fought hard for the rest of the game with some great sets of handling and defensive tackling but eventually, the Currie backs produced breakout runs resulting with them scoring two more tries, the first with 10 minutes to go and the second on full time finishing off the home side 10-26. A somewhat flattering score, but maybe a deserved win for the visitors.
A fantastically competitive game from everyone in the conditions with everyone of the Linlithgow boys raising their game on the day.
