The Singapore Rugby Union (SRU) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head Coach for the Singapore National Rugby Teams. This role will be responsible for leading, developing, and implementing high-performance coaching strategies for both the men’s and women’s national teams. The Head Coach will play a crucial role in elevating Singapore’s presence in the international rugby arena and allowing us to reach our regional sporting goals.

  • Leadership & Strategy:
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive coaching strategy that aligns with the SRU’s goals for both the men’s and women’s national teams.
    • Lead the National 7s team in all competitions, ensuring the highest standards of performance.
    • Foster a culture of excellence, discipline, and teamwork within the teams.
  • Player Development:
    • Identify and nurture talent at all levels, focusing on the development of elite athletes.
    • Collaborate with regional and club coaches to ensure a robust player pathway and talent identification process.
    • Implement modern coaching techniques and methodologies to enhance player performance.
  • Team Management:
    • Manage the coaching staff and support teams, ensuring a cohesive approach to training, preparation, and competition.
    • Coach the Men’s 7s team and provide technical support to the National Women’s 7s team.
    • Develop individualized training and development plans for players, focusing on technical, tactical, physical, and mental aspects.
    • Monitor and evaluate player performance, providing feedback and adjustments as necessary.
  • Game Preparation:
    • Lead the planning and execution of training sessions, camps, and match preparations.
    • Analyze opposition teams and develop effective game plans and strategies.
    • Ensure optimal player fitness and conditioning through collaboration with strength and conditioning coaches.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Liaise with the SRU management, team managers, and other stakeholders to align on objectives and resources.
    • Represent Singapore Rugby at international forums, conferences, and events.
    • Represent Singapore Rugby to conduct coach development/sharing sessions with Sport Singapore and CoachSG counterparts.

    Key Qualifications:

    • Experience:
      • Minimum of 5-7 years of coaching experience, with at least 3 years at the national or professional level.
      • Proven track record in developing and coaching high-performance rugby teams.
      • Experience in coaching both men’s and women’s teams is highly desirable.
      • Knowledge and experience in the Asia Rugby climate would be a plus.
    • Education & Certification:
      • World Rugby Level 3 (or equivalent) coaching certification.
      • Relevant tertiary qualification in sports science, coaching, or a related field is preferred.
    • Skills & Attributes:
      • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate players and staff.
      • In-depth knowledge of modern rugby coaching techniques, tactics, and strategies.
      • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
      • Culturally aware with the ability to work in a diverse environment.
