Stuart Hogg arrested again as former Scotland rugby star due in court today
EX-SCOTLAND rugby captain Stuart Hogg has been arrested again and is due to appear in court today.
The 32-year-old ace was lifted and charged at a property in Hawick for allegedly breaching bail conditions.
And he is due to appear at Jedburgh Sheriff Court sometime later today.
It comes as Hogg was first arrested back in February at his estranged wife’s house for allegedly engaging in a course of conduct which caused fear and alarm.
The alleged incident is reported to have happened on February 25 – a day after he attended Scotland’s Calcutta Cup victory over England at Murrayfield.
He then appeared in the dock for a brief hearing at Jedburgh Sheriff Court back in May where he denied abusing and stalking his wife Gillian.
Hogg was also accused of monitoring his wife’s communications and controlling her family life for seven years.
He is also charged under section one of the Domestic Abuse Scotland Act which alleges he engaged in a course of behaviour which was “abusive” to his wife Gillian.
Hogg, who is now separated from Gillian and in a relationship with Sky Sports presenter Leonna Mayor, also denied a third charge of failing to comply with an undertaking.
The former captain, who was smuggled out of court under a coat in the back of his parents’ car, denies the charges. He had originally been arrested in February this year.
He is set to stand trial in just over four weeks time on July 30, with Sheriff Derek O’Carroll granting him bail in the meantime.
But Police Scotland has confirmed this morning that Hogg has been arrested for allegedly breaching his bail conditions.
At his last court appearance, Hogg attended with his parents and was allowed to enter the court building via a side door – usually reserved for lawyers and court officials – to avoid cameras and members of the public.
He was then given access to a witness room to sit and wait on his case calling.
His lawyer, Matt Patrick, entered a not-guilty plea on Hogg’s behalf.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2pm on Tuesday, 2 July, 2024, officers attended at an address in Hawick and a 32-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with a breach of bail.
“He is due to appear at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 3 July.”
Hogg retired from rugby union prior to last year’s World Cup having
amassed a century of senior caps and been involved in three British and Irish Lions tours.
But last month he made a complete u-turn in his career and penned a two-year deal to return to rugby.
He has now been officially snapped up by a new team after being linked with hometown club Hawick and Newcastle Falcons as well as teams in Japan.
He has signed a two-year deal with French side Montpellier with the option of a third season.
Hogg is one of Scotland’s most celebrated rugby stars having earned 100 caps and is the country’s all-time leading try scorer.
He has also won national and European titles with both Glasgow Warriors and Exeter Chiefs.
Hogg was awarded an MBE in the 2024 New year Honours List for services to rugby union.
As well as playing pro in Glasgow and Exeter he also had an amateur career spanning Ayr, Stirling County and Hawick.
Since initially hanging up his boots Hogg has been working as a rugby pundit and analyst for broadcasters TNT Sport.
