Luctonians picked up in the same form they left 2022, as they comprehensively won the derby game with Bournville.

In conditions that were breezy to begin with and then extremely wet on top in the second period, a combination of power and pace, saw the home side run in seven tries, with man-of-the-match Louis Silver scoring 22 points including a perfect eight from eight from the tee.

Silver started the scoreboard ticking with a penalty on 5 minutes, and Lucs would have a 10-0 lead after 9 minutes as James Wheeler ran in a dangerous counterattack, started by fellow winger Charlie Grimes.

Tom Jones made it 17-0 on 21 with a wonderful solo effort, before Silver went over with a quick tap and go penalty.

Grimes would score his eighth try of the season on 33 minutes, finishing off some lovely phase play by the home side and the scoring would not be done for the first period as Lucs scored the try of the game on the stroke of half time, as Grimes and Aikman combined from a first phase move to put fullback Josh Watkins in for a wonderful converted score and a 38-0 lead at the break.

As the elements worsened in the second period, running rugby became a thought of the past but Lucs would still score two further tries through Aiden Cheshire and Owien Harriott-Davis for a 52-0 final scoreline, with Bournville unable to muster anything in the face of the league’s top ranked defence.
