Leigh Centurions • Social Media

Apologies for banging the same drum over and over again, but I am seeing other clubs handling social media in a much more professional manner than Leigh Centurions are currently doing. My brother recently sent a link from todays challengers Newcastle Thunder https://www.youtube.com/embed/lk3fuSLWLjk?autoplay=1
In terms of output this is a slick media presentation and available on the Youtube platform. With a presenter that is clear and precise unlike Mickey O'Gara and his 91 subscribers.

Leigh have made huge strides on the field, with Chris Chester available for interviews in Morrisons on a daily basis and regular snippets from the very debonair Adrian Lam. Leigh primarily use a standard website template on Wordpress which appears to be down more than it is up, but the main material appears on Twitter which is not my favourite platform, but is better than following a game via Ceefax (People of certain vintage). I have checked out Facebook and that appears to offer a better platform than Twitter with very similar content.

The RFL have brought in IMG to improve the image of the game but it is very important that the individual clubs up their game in this respect. I applaud the efforts of Newcastle (Full-time and Media content) York (community ties and new stadium) and Keighley (Splashing the cash at the right time).
Bradford and Widnes despite their rich heritage appear to moving in the opposite direction and if two divisions of 10 becomes a reality, are likely to exiled to amateur clubs.

Social Media is here to stay and it requires a regular daily update in content to keep the fans engaged. We should be able to get our information from the club and not from trawling Yorkshire and Hull regional papers who have far more articles on Rugby League than the North West equivalent papers who are Football centric.
