Its interesting that during the recent halfback shortage Sutcliffe wasn't given a go. Suggests Smith has seen enough of him in videos and playing in the centres to know he simply isn't a halfback.
I've had some sympathy for Sutcliffe in terms of being moved around, but he's really not that good a player in any position, although he looks best in the centres. But while I wouldn't be upset if he left, and for sure accept there are better centres out there, I just see it as less of a priority than having a front row that can hold its own against the bigger teams.
