Assuming Gale wanted out there's not much we could do about it. McLelland was a different story. We should definitely have looked to find a replacement who actually plays in the halves. Didn't need to be a current international.
As Marty says, Sutcliffe and Myler have failed as halfbacks multiple times. Myler can play that wider role very well, but as a decision-making halfback he's no good. Sutcliffe is barely a SL player in any position.
All of our halfbacks would look better if we didn't have a shortage of props and those we did have weren't mainly on the smaller side. But Sutcliffe and Myler are desperation halfbacks - neither should be first in line with one injury.
