5ths beat Terenure in Dramatic Final
Metro League Division 6 Final – Old Wesley 21 Terenure 20
Trailing 20 nil after thirty minutes Old Wesley 5ths looked to be down and out against Terenure.
A James Sharpe try converted by Andrew Scanlon before half time eventually got Old Wesley on the scoreboard. Then a second try by Cameron Wood, again converted, ten minutes into the second half got them to within 6 points of the opposition. And with less than five minutes to go a third try by Alasdair Rennie, confidently converted by Scanlon gave Wesley a one point lead.
In a nervous final few minutes Wesley just held out to claim the first trophy of the season.
The team included the ever youthful Dave Bursey who, at the age of 53, came on in the second half to win another medal to add to his already large collection.
