Stats | Season So Far

As we approach the midway point of the season, take a look at the stats and best pics from Munster Rugby’s 2021/22 campaign so far.

Johann van Graan’s side have recorded nine wins in 11 games with both defeats coming away from home – against Ospreys and Connacht in the United Rugby Championship.

The province won all four games in the Champions Cup to qualify for a round of 16 clash against Exeter over two legs in April. See full details here.

Munster are fifth in the URC with a game in hand of the top three, lying five points behind leaders Edinburgh. See the table here.

Munster are third in the Irish Shield, nine points ahead of Connacht, one point behind Leinster and two points behind Ulster. Munster have a game in hand of Connacht and Ulster.

Attack & Defence

Munster have scored 324 points and 40 tries in 11 games, averaging 29 points per game and 3.6 tries.

We have conceded 171 points and 18 tries – conceding an average score of 16 and 1.6 tries.

Munster and Leinster share the record for the fewest tries conceded in the URC so far this season (13).

Of the clubs to have played all four fixtures in the Champions Cup Pool stages, no team has conceded fewer than Munster (five).

Debuts

There have been debuts for 14 players this season, including eight Greencore Munster Rugby Academy members.

The full list of debutants includes: Scott Buckley, Tony Butler, Patrick Campbell, Ethan Coughlan, Mark Donnelly, John Forde (Cork Constitution), James French, Jason Jenkins, Conor Moloney (Young Munster), Declan Moore, Eoin O’Connor, Daniel Okeke, Rowan Osborne and Jonathan Wren.

There have been Champions Cup debuts 19 players. All of the players above, other than Osborne, made their first appearances in the Champions Cup along with Diarmuid Barron, Jack Crowley, John Hodnett, Alex Kendellen, Keynan Knox and Roman Salanoa.

Points & Appearances

Ben Healy is the top points scorer with 53 points and Jack O’Donoghue leads the way on tries with five.

O’Donoghue has also made the most appearances, featuring in all 11 games and making nine starts. He has played in 674 of the 880 minutes in our 11 games.

Diarmuid Barron has made 10 appearances (3 starts and 7 substitute appearances) with Andrew Conway, Dave Kilcoyne, Jean Kleyn, Peter O’Mahony, Niall Scannell and Fineen Wycherley all making eight starts.

Mike Haley has made the most metres with 511 in his seven starts with Gavin Coombes leading the way in carries with 117 in eight appearances.

Awards & Landmarks

Craig Casey, Gavin Coombes, Chris Cloete Scott Buckley, Damian de Allende, Tadhg Beirne, Jack O’Donoghue and Neil Cronin have been Munster’s Player of the Match winners so far this season.

Rory Scannell and Jack O’Donoghue have earned their 150th Munster caps with O’Donoghue becoming the youngest player to reach the landmark.

Jean Kleyn made his 100th appearance away to Zebre last weekend.

Simon Zebo overtook Anthony Foley to become Munster’s record try-scorer in the Champions Cup after his double against Wasps.
