May have been raised before but surely no worse sport for head injury issues than boxing.
The implications of that sport has been known about for decade bdes - i wander what % of boxers developed dementia? You’d think it would be very high in that sport if trauma to the head is a cause?
I make no comment on the rights and wrongs of this because a) dementia brain injuries are pretty horrendous b) I dont know the circumstances
Boxing one is quite interesting as the sole intent of a professional boxer is to disable their opponent - one obvious that is by repeatedly hitting someone in the head with a view to knocking them out.
Whereas head impacts in the game of rugby are actually largely a result of the rules and or the interpretation of them by the officials. Trouble is if this case is proven then as already said the rfl insurers will have to pay out and it won't just be for these cases!
So suspect the long term impact on the rules will be quite profound
