Club Rugby Update from Ulster Rugby

0 7

As a result of the continued impact of COVID-19 on domestic rugby in the province, Ulster Rugby has today confirmed the current men’s and women’s adult season plan and competitive league structure for club rugby in Ulster is declared null and void, with promotion and relegation now cancelled for the 2020-21 season.

The province’s Competitions Management Committee (CMC), in agreement with the Rugby Committee, has decided there are to be no further competitive adult league fixtures for the rest of 2020. This decision is to allow clubs to plan accordingly.

Instead, the CMC will work over the coming weeks to put in place a new season plan which will run from January 2021 – with a proposed conclusion planned for Saturday 22 May. Ulster Rugby will be in contact with clubs with an update as soon as is feasible, and to assist with the planned recommencement of the club rugby season at the start of 2021.

Both the Energia Men’s and Women’s Community Series are unaffected by this decision, and the series will resume when public health measures allow for this.

Ulster Rugby will continue to liaise, along with the IRFU, with local government on how the latest measures designed to slow the spread of COVID-19 impact domestic rugby across the province.
