I was going to re-produce this text from a poster that I saved many months ago. But then I thought, nah, I'll get all the regulation “conspiracy theory” snipes.
But here goes: An explanation to where all this going.

But then I read this. Now folks, this could be your route back to watching rugby at Belle Vue.
We could all be wearing these around our necks just like cows and Kitties. At least those of us smart enough not to own a smart phone.
“Along with the athletes, 500 members of the London Marathon operational team are all wearing devices around their neck, helping to implement social distancing in the run up to the race. The technology, developed by Tharsus, has been named Bump.
Using Radio Frequency technology, the device instantly alerts when a wearer gets too close to another person. They also store data of which other Bump devices you’ve been in proximity with, so in the case of a positive test, organisers will be able to take action to prevent further transmission.
Hugh Brasher has praise the technology, revealing he’d hoped to roll it out to the mass participation event, should it have gone ahead this October. ‘We have been working with Tharsus for many months and, when we were still hoping to deliver the mass participation event on its usual route, we were planning to supply all participants with the Bump technology in order to hold a socially-distanced mass event. It shows how important a role technology can play in the current situation’ said Brasher.
'This will not only provide vital support to clubs and organisations suffering a significant impact on their revenue but have a huge boost for national morale. The Virgin Money London Marathon is a foremost example of this; it is a hugely symbolic sporting event and we are delighted to be playing a role in facilitating its delivery in such challenging circumstances.'
The device will not be worn during the race, however, with athletes taking them off just before the starting line.”

Did they know something we didn't all those months ago? And we all thought it would be over by the summer.
