The Virtual Terrace • Re: Future of the Game

Come on Silent, the rose tinted spectacles are blurring your vision.

I would see myself as someone in favour of expansion but, right now, Toronto, despite having had success at attracting new fans to the sport, which they should be applauded for, they have spent $millions, chucked in the towel when isolated at the bottom of SL, failed to pay their players and abandoned the comp part way through the season AND want a place back in the top flight.
With the same rap sheet, any UK club would have been relegated and deducted points.

"Donny" has gone massively OTT with his endless jibes about Toronto (and Catalan) but, despite all of their early "search for a star" publicity, all they have done is to take has been stars from "Aus" and put together a squad incapable of competing in SL and then failed (badly).
Also, there is still no strategy or long, medium or, short term plan on how to get a proper foothold for RL in N .America.

It's not rose tinted glasses that are needed, it's proper vision and a plan, plus, loadsamoney.
Without this, Pro RL wont take off and even now, we look like having a Canadian version of Crusaders over there, which is actually a step backwards.
Throw into the mix the ongoing situation with covid an it would be wise to postpone the plans for N .America, until there is a clear idea of just what "we" are trying to achieve.

I don't wear glasses of any colour thanks.

I have never defended Toronto for their obvious shortcomings, but do believe that there are many positives to take from Toronto thus far and that it would be a travesty to leave behind the foothold that Rugby league has created. It's because of this view I get the demeaning attacks from the usual suspects.
