SALE are being probed after claims they held a PARTY days before 16 of their squad tested positive for Covid-19.

Prem Rugby yesterday launched an “urgent review” with the RFU and Public Health England over the infections which will discover whether the Sharks breached any coronavirus rules.

SunSport has been told that boss Steve Diamond’s side allegedly hosted a boozed-up bash at their Carrington training base after their Premiership Rugby Cup win against Harlequins 13 days ago.

But the club deny any party and insist they “have stringently followed PRL and RFU protocols throughout the PRL and RFU protocols throughout the pandemic in order to contain the spread of the virus.”

A club statement added: “The wellbeing of all Premiership Rugby’s players, staff and officials remains Sale Sharks’ No.1 priority.

“Although a significant number of positive tests have been recorded, all of the club’s players and staff are currently well.”

Because of the freak Covid-19 outbreak at the AJ Bell Stadium, today’s (sun) Super Sunday clash with Worcester Warriors has been postponed until Wednesday – despite the club claiming they could field a side.

However, Sale have to open their doors to the RFU for “An independent audit of the track and trace processes over the next few days before the game is played.”

Sale’s non-infected players will be re-tested on Tuesday over the watchful eye of experts at PHE, who are working with the club and others to put a lid on the killer disease spreading further.
