The Virtual Terrace • Re: Future of the Game

CANADA WHY?

ROBERT Elstone has told Toronto Wolfpack to prove whether it is worth having a Super League team in Canada. The Canadian side has been given four weeks to redraw a ‘frankly disappointing’ t plan to stay in the top flight, owner Carlo LiVolsi had not given his full attention. The Super League boss said: “Their submission was, in essence, short on two principal points - the viability of Super League in Canada and there certainly wasn't enough evidence to support that. Secondly, the viability of the club itself, which fundamentally is around financial projections and the input of the owner and neither of those were answered in sufficient detail”.

"The club has to prove it’s viable in its own right firstly but the question beyond that is will Super League be better off at some point in the foreseeable future from having a team in Toronto? Give us an indication that Super League in Canada makes commercial sense?”. “Fundamentally for growth, will it bring new revenue in the other clubs will be able to share in? "That's the challenge and we have to look for evidence of whether we believe that's possible or not."

We can't dream North American clubs into Superleague, we can't throw out clubs here who attract TV deals and develop players so Carlo Livolsi can swan about pretending to be a big RL club owner like Argyle. Argyle threw $30M down the pan, didn't produce a single NA player or a single TV dollar.

How is that "Expansion" exactly? Elstone is clear what expansion really is - a larger money pot, that then needs a larger playing pool.
