Under 8s Season Review 2019/20
Under 8s Season Review 2019/20
The Under 8s are a team of 23 enthusiastic, young rugby players frustrated by the atrocious weather we had all been experiencing. All were eager to learn how rugby is played and many embraced the wider benefits of being part of the rugby family. As a team we concentrated on honing the basic skills; passing off both hands, looking for and running into space as well as dodging.
There was huge excitement when, with a nod to the future, tackle bags were introduced for a one-off session before Christmas – reports were received that several of the participants were heard reminiscing in the clubhouse afterwards, “Did you see me smash it?”, “Massive hit!”, “Bossshhh!” Rumour has it that a couple of senior members had to do a double take; thinking it was actually Tomo entertaining all comers to stories of the past. It is not clear if the confusion was created by the nature of the stories or the stature of the story tellers. Notwithstanding, it’ll be interesting to see how they all fair next year when contact is introduced for real.
There has been a huge improvement in everyone’s ability and general understanding of the game and it is great to see the team growing in confidence in both attack and defence, and as individuals. All the above whilst having loads of fun and making sure that everyone joins in and is included.
The coaches and manager would like to extend their thanks to all the mums and dads who supported and volunteered throughout the season. As an age group and as a wider club we are always looking for help throughout the season – please don’t be shy in coming forward.
Sadly, with the season being cut short, we missed out on the tour but it was still a great season for the ‘Mighty Under U8s’.
