The Virtual Terrace • Future of the Game

The pervasive message trickling down to the clubs below superleague is that rather than representing one part of a family, they are actually 2nd class. That they had better vote with their dual partnership club or else. That TV money won't make it very far down the pyramid if at all. That methods of promotion may be tinkered with or dispensed of altogether. There is now no sense of unity in the game and I think it is a corrosive mindset that gradually stops some people coming to the games and even more importantly, it stops you bringing your kids along and introducing the next generation. Then there's surely a sense of "same old" about topflight fixtures. Can Giants and Trin fans (just as an example) honestly tell me that they feel enthusiasm about playing one another. Or rather is it a weary sense of duty. The game should feel like all parts pulling together. It absolutely doesn't and unless that changes people will trickle away.
