Leeds Rhinos - southstander.com • Rugby League Gets Big Government Handout

In RL Koukash was remarkably unsuccessful despite the money he ploughed recklessly into Salford. Broke contracts, broke the salary cap, no significant increase in crowds or revenue, academy funded by fans donations and all to finish 14th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 7th & 9th before sodding off.

Koukash is not someone whose example should be followed.

Aside from that it’s very nice saying we should look elsewhere but those who do never actually say who or how we deal with making up the shortfall in income from moving away from Sky.

Great let’s get Eddie Hearn involved. Who decides on that? It needs the clubs. What if they don’t all agree with what he wants to do?
It’s a far more complex picture than darts.

I'm not pretending to know all the answers by any means. I suppose my main point is that the sport could use this period as an opportunity to reflect, and look at some changes moving forward. At the minute we are left with a competition that is becoming less and less of a spectacle to watch, this crowds and interest is dropping, so vicious cycle. Amateur RL is more entertaining imho.
Over reffing, disciplinary panel, sky coverage and infinite replays are to blame.
Top players are not playing in some of the biggest games due to over penal bans. I remember Danny Mcguite missing a grand final eliminatir one year for next to nothing. Its this really what we want?
