Don't think that's possible is it? The RFL is a governing body, SL is a private organisation. Sport England for a start wouldn't deal with SL? Must admit I'm not fully informed on the legalities of it all but I that's my understanding.
I always understood why SL wanted to breakaway. The RFL were all over the place and there were clearly trust issues (not least with all the shenanigans surrounding my club)
But in typical RL fashion, the implementation of it was all wrong IMO From the start the press conference announcing the structure was changing without any game wide consultation within the sport, started off the civil war. I agreed with the change as I hated the 8s. But I thought that press conference was nothing more then SL flexing its muscles and causing the cival way that ensued. Granted our gob$h!t3 chairman at the time went on a one man crusade to insult every SL chairman going. But it could have easily been avoided if things were done differently IMO
SL should have had Elstone as the man in charge and everyone answered to him and his team. Not him being the puppet for the chairman. The duplication of resources when the sport has next to no money anyway was always ridculous.
I know there is some heated debate on twitter, but I do feel frustrated with the SL chairman (not because I'm a Bradford fan etc) but because I feel the sport has torn itself a part for the last two years, wasted the very little mone the sport has, for not much in return. Elstone was on a reported £450k a year. Have we got value for money? Attendances don't seem to have increased.
The one good thing is if/when everyone comes back under the RFL they are genuine changes to the governing body that holds them to account. Maybe the CEO has his place voted for every 4 years by the clubs. SL also needs a strong voice at the table a long with the players. We're not a rich enough sport to fight against each other. We need to all work as one. I won't hold my breath though.
Of course it's possible. Rimmer out and Elstone (or some hand picked puppet) in. SL become the RFL and then...…
