Corona and Rugby – Controlling the Controllables
Everyday life stops – and rugby?
Preparing for this year Six Nation Super Saturday we saw it became less “Super” and finally no games at all. What to do, club games and training stops, life without rugby?
Homework
Perhaps something to consider: give your players some homework? Keep them busy! Perhaps Tabata’s are a good option, lots of schedules floating around on the internet. Like this Popsugar ones I found here.
Rugby Values in daily live
Yes, keep the positive rugby vibe alive – we can combat the craziness around Corona with our values:
INTEGRITY
Integrity is central to the fabric of the game and is generated through honesty and fair play. Be honest and fair – follow guidelines set-up by your (local) Government and try to help each other out where you can.
PASSION
Rugby people have a passionate enthusiasm for the game. Rugby generates excitement, emotional attachment and a sense of belonging to the global rugby family. We also belong to a greater community – show compassion for families who suffer and may need your help.
SOLIDARITY
Rugby provides a unifying spirit that leads to life-long friendships, camaraderie, teamwork and loyalty which transcends cultural, geographic, political and religious differences. Yes – together we can overcome this. Work from home, interact with your friends and family through different channels.
DISCIPLINE
Discipline is an integral part of the game both on and off the field and is reflected through adherence to the laws, the regulations and rugby’s core values. Take the moral high ground, please do not get upset over some toilet roles.
RESPECT
Respect for team-mates, opponents, match officials and those involved in the game is paramount. Respect the government advise, look for real information not social media when you want to know more. Everybody is impacted, with strict regulations we can share the pain.
Homework: Laws of the game
Another consideration: this is the time you can educate yourself on the rules of the game: take World Rugby’s Law exam! Find more here.
The Positive Coaching Alliance newsletter
Every day brings new developments related to the COVID-19 virus and this uncertainty can be unsettling. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who’ve been affected. PCA is taking this very seriously and nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our employees, chapters, trainers, coaches, athletes, and supporters.
[….]PCA is aware that games, tournaments, meets, clinics, meetings, and other group events throughout the world are being postponed or canceled, and that those cancellations are both disappointing and necessary to prevent further spread of disease. While cancellations and precautionary measures continue, there are always ways to make ourselves, our teammates, and our community better, and we will continue to work alongside you in these efforts.
During this period of restrictions, which may lead to more time at home, here are a few resources we hope you’ll find useful:
